SCEA Quarterly Meeting - January 24, 2023
Dear SCEA Members,
We are planning our first Quarterly Membership Meeting of the SCEA for Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, from 11AM to 12PM. The meeting will take place via go to meeting and we plan to discuss the following:
1. Board Positions:
a. Board President: Phil Crawford, has announced his retirement from the County and has taken leave. At this time, I am the de-facto President, as I have been serving as the Vice President. This position requires strong negotiation and leadership skills and is an influential seat for our Unit. If you are interested in serving the Unit in this position or would like to nominate someone who meets these qualifications, please share your nominations at the next meeting.
b. Secretary: We currently pay Nicole Carroll to serve as our Secretary, as we have been unable to fill the position from our membership in the past. Nicole would like to resign from her position, and I am open to finding and hiring a new Secretary, should we continue to be unable to fill this position with a member. However, I think it is fiscally prudent for us to re-examine current membership to determine if there is anyone willing to serve at this time, before we turn to paying someone. If you would like to serve as Secretary, please share your interest at the Jan 24th meeting.
2. Teamsters Health Insurance Vote:
a. We have had several meetings discussing the option to switch to the Teamsters health insurance and out of PERS. If we would like to do so, we need to take a vote of our membership and move the process forward so that the Teamsters can work with the County to get it in front of the Board of Supervisors, resolved, and noticed to PERS in time for a Sept 15th deadline. The Teamsters will be at the Jan 24th meeting to answer any additional questions we might have before we take a vote.
